The short answer
A non-toxic kids’ rug is made without harmful substances in its fibres, dyes and backing, and ideally proves it with independent testing. Hueppi rugs are certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, tested for more than 350 harmful substances.
Why “non-toxic” needs proof
Anyone can write “non-toxic” on a label. What matters is whether the rug has been independently tested. Look for a recognised certification, not just a promise.
The four things to check
1. Certification
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 tests every part of a textile, threads, dyes and backing included, for harmful substances. Every Hueppi rug carries it.
2. Dyes
Bright colours shouldn’t come at a cost. Hueppi rugs are coloured with ecological, water-based dyes of Italian origin.
3. Fibres
Our rugs are woven from GRS certified, 100% recycled Repreve® fibres. Up to 177 plastic bottles are kept out of oceans and landfills for a single rug.
4. Backing
The underside counts too. We use a synthetic latex backing that keeps the rug from slipping. It doesn’t dry out or crumble over time, and it does not present a risk to people with latex allergies.
